success of the “Illuminated Speicherstadt
district” surpassed all expectations. More
than 3,000 people came to the opening celebrations
in April 2001 to wonder at the spectacle from
aboard 55 motor boats.
In response to the extremely high level of interest
in this and other projects, the “Lebendige
Stadt” Foundation – with the help
of the Philips company and the GHS port and location
development specialist – organised an event
on April 4, 2002 where people could obtain more
detailed information on this artistic and trend-setting
civic development concept.
